Man Died and Two Children Hospitalized

February 29th, 2008: Glenn Phillips

A father was killed and his two young children are hospitalized after a crash near East Jefferson Street and Martin Luther King Way Jr. The father, who was in his late 40s to early 50s, was driving a Mazda MX-6 on Martin Luther King Jr. Way when he attempted to turn onto Temple Place a one-way street that would have been illegal for him to do, said police department spokeswoman Rene Witt.

He hit a pickup traveling in the opposite direction on Martin Luther King Jr. Way. He and his daughters were transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries. His older daughter, described as eight to 10 years old, was listed in serious condition. The younger, about 4 years old, has been upgraded to serious condition.

Pedestrian Killed At Seattle Intersection

February 27th, 2008: Glenn Phillips

A 94-year-old woman was killed when she was hit by a car while crossing a street in northeast Seattle. The woman, identified as Ruby Blood of Shoreline, was killed when a Subaru Legacy making a left turn from Northeast 145th Street onto 15th Avenue Northeast struck her. The driver, a 77-year-old Bothell woman, had a green light, according to a state patrol press memo.

Another pedestrian, a 67-year-old Shoreline woman, was also struck by the vehicle but did not have serious injuries, according to the memo. A preliminary investigation shows that the two women began crossing the street in a crosswalk with a green light but only made about half way before the light turned red. The car that hit them apparently had a green light when it turned.
