auto accident, personal injury attorney, side impact collisions

February 16th, 2010: Law Blogger

Hwy 3 & Newberry Hill RoadSilverdale — A 96-year-old Central Kitsap woman, driving a 1995 Mercury Marquis, crossed the centerline on Newberry Hill just west of Highway 3 in Central Kitsap about 7 p.m last Thursday. Her car collided with a 1997 Volkswagon Jetta driven by a 28-year-old Central Kitsap woman.

The 28-year-old and two passengers, her 6-month-old daughter and a 7-year-old family friend, were taken by family members to Harrison Medical Center in Silverdale.

Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson said the crash appeared to have been caused by the 96-year-old was taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton by ambulance. She suffered apparent facial injuries.

Newberry Hill Road was blocked for about 30 minutes due to the crash.

Older drivers should be cognizant that their age, medication, or other circumstances related to advanced age may contribute to slower reaction times and confusion during critical decision periods required to avoid accidents. These factors may lead to higher insurance rates or, as in this case, serious consequences for minor children.
