highway 99 near safeco fieldSeattle – A male driver was alone in a car driving south on Highway 99 near Safeco Field at around 10:40 pm last night when he slammed into an adjacent white sedan, sending it flipping and sliding across the highway, while the car that caused the accident was repelled onto the train tracks and also flipped several times.

There were three men in the other car. Each of the four suffered minor injuries and was taken to Harborview Medical Center, said Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman Helen Fitzpatrick, who did not know details about the injuries. The driver was confirmed to have suffered a broken arm.

Officials closed the southbound lanes of the road near South Stacy Street, south of Safeco Field and the part of the road known as the Alaskan Way Viaduct. The road reopened around midnight Wednesday.

None of those involved was drinking, police said. Police are investigating what caused the accident.

Usually when there is no apparent cause to an accident, i.e., drugs or alcohol, then the answer is usually either a medical situation or a matter of fatigued driving.

Fatigued driving can happen after a long shift at work or times when sleep is impaired by a medical condition or even a new baby. It is important that you recognize the danger prior to entering the car and stay aware of the situation during. If you find yourself drifting or falling asleep it is imperative to your safety and the safety of others that you pull off of the road and either nap or find something to wake you up.

If you get into an injury accident, contact Phillips Webster for a consultation and to review your legal options.
