LYNDEN — A Washington State Patrol trooper was driving a WSP Dodge Charger just after 9 a.m. yesterday. Just as he was preparing to make a U-turn from the shoulder of the road, a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu struck the left real wheel, Trooper Keith Leary said.

The collision closed East Badger Road for nearly three hours while the Washington State Patrol investigated.

The unidentified trooper sustained neck and back pain, was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham but was discharged quickly, Leary said. The Everson woman, also not named, sustained “modest back pain”. The crash was under investigation to determine who was at fault, Leary said.

Often injuries sustained at the accident, particularly back and neck injuries, can feel moderate at the scene, but become debilitating once the ordeal is over and the injured person relaxes. This could be hours later to days later.
