Jamie Cooper, 20, of Nooksack, was driving a 1991 Saturn traveling westbound on McLeon Road just before midnight last night when she ran a stop sign and crashed into a 1991 Mazda traveling northbound on Bennett Drive, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Cooper was injured as was her passenger, Daniel Taylor, 27, of Bellingham. Both were treated at St. Joseph Hospital and released. Neither Cooper nor Taylor were wearing their seatbelts.
The Mazda driver, Jesse Johnson, 19, of Bellingham, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Johnson was wearing his seatbelt.
Troopers reported that both vehicles were destroyed and that drugs and alcohol may have been involved.
Mixing the combination of drugs and alcohol with no seatbelts should leave Cooper and Taylor very thankful that they are still alive. A night of fun shouldn’t cost so much. Please don’t drink and drive and always wear your seatbelt.
