A Vancouver police officer attempted to pull over two men in a 1995 American Eagle Talon near Southeast Ellsworth Road and Evergreen Highway at around 2:15 am when the car suddenly took off.
The police officer did not pursue as is their policy, but he didn’t have to because the Talon quickly lost control because of the high speed, slid on the shoulder, then slammed head-on into a tree, wrapping the front end around it.
One man was able to wriggle out of the car, but the other man was trapped. The other man was freed from the vehicle by responding fire crews and the two men were transported to Southwest Washington Medical Center by AMR with firefighter medics in tow.
The two men remain in serious condition. The involvement of drugs or alcohol has not yet been released.
Obviously, speed was the major factor in this injury car crash, but since it was right after the bar had closed, alcohol may have been a factor in their decision to speed away. Either way, speed is a major factor in a large portion of many of the accidents that result in serious personal injuries.
