Two women in a Toyota truck were traveling down Northeast St. Johns Road around 12:43 a.m. when they suddenly and brutally collided with a Chrysler minivan in the 6500 block.
Firefighters responded with the department’s heavy rescue unit and a single fire engine. The famed hydraulic tool the “Jaws of Life” was used to retrieve one of the woman who was trapped in the pickup.
She had suffered “severe intrusion on the driver side,” according to Jim Flaherty, a Vancouver Fire Department spokesman.
Both women from the truck were transferred to area hospitals to be treated for serious personal injuries.
The woman driving the minivan was no hurt in the accident, but was transported to the hospital for examination as a precaution. Police are investigating whether or not the woman consumed alcohol prior to the collision.
If the driver is found to have been intoxicated it could mean serious charges are stacked on top of the DUI charges. These situations yield giant fines and in some cases jail time, which generally leads to loss of job and income. This didn’t have to happen. Please don’t drink and drive.
