Cautionary Steps to Avoid Car Collisions in Washington

Accident Injuries, Car Accident, Car Accident Lawyer, collision, Washington Accident

January 6th, 2010: Washington Legal

Downtown Seattle—A nasty accident occurred on 20th and Main that has left one or more people injured, both of whom were transported to Harborview for treatment of unspecified injuries.
A collision that seems to have involved three vehicles were involved, including a DirecTV van, resulted in a child in a car-seat being ejected.
Too often car accidents—which are already a headache (no pun intended)—become more serious when small but significant actions are avoided. In this case the child’s car seat, which was improperly placed in the car resulted in serious injuries. While there is no way of knowing whether the accident would have caused serious injuries anyway, the possibilities when proper action is taken greatly reduces the chances of greater problems.

Such actions that can help drivers in car accidents include:

1. Wearing seatbelts.
2. Well-maintained vehicle.
3. Avoiding distractions (i.e. cell phones, radio, etc.)

A few small steps can help reduce the injuries inherent in an auto collision.

Early Morning Crash Near Monroe Leaves Two Dead

When you read about an auto accident that occurs at 2 a.m., certain thoughts immediately come to mind. The most obvious is the question of whether or not alcohol was involved, and tragically, that appears to be a possibility in the wake of a crash that occurred near Monroe yesterday morning. Two people were killed in the collision and another is listed in serious condition.

According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer:

“Two people have died in a crash outside Monroe, and state troopers believe alcohol or other drugs may be involved.

Troopers report that shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, an eastbound 2008 Hyundai Tiburon went off State Route 522 to the right, then veered across the center line and collided with a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup truck.

The driver of the car and a passenger died at the scene. Trooper Keith A. Leary says both were men in their 20s. A second passenger, 26-year-old Christopher A. Anderson of Everett, was listed in serious condition Sunday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.”

Clearly, more investigation work needs to be done before a definitive cause of the accident can be revealed. However, these types of crashes are all too common when someone makes a mistake behind the wheel and over-corrects. Sadly, it cost two people their lives. If you or someone you love has been injured in an auto accident that involved alcohol or for any other reason that was not your fault, you need to contact the personal injury lawyers at Phillips & Webster today to schedule a free initial consultation.

Family Day in Victoria, B.C. Ends in Tragedy

Many who live in or around Seattle take advantage of the proximity to all that British Columbia has to offer to the immediate north and take short trips there to enjoy such cities as Victoria. One family appears to have done just that over the weekend, but theirs was a trip that ended in disaster before they arrived at home. Two people were killed and three more injured in an auto accident just south of the Hood Canal Bridge.

According to the Seattle Times:

“A Kent mother and her two children were taken to a Bremerton hospital late Saturday after a collision on Highway 3 killed both the woman’s husband and the man driving the vehicle that struck the family’s Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to the Poulsbo Fire Department.

The Kent family had spent the day in Victoria, B.C. and were on their way home, driving south on Highway 3, according to a fire department news release.

They were just south of the Hood Canal Bridge when a man, driving north in a Jeep Cherokee, collided with their vehicle at approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday, the release said.

Both men were declared dead at the scene. Their names and ages, along with the second man’s hometown, were not immediately known.

An 11-year-old boy suffered critical injuries while his mother and 4-year-old sister suffered serious injuries, the release says. All three were taken to Bremerton’s Harrison Hospital.”

While much is yet to be resolved in the forthcoming investigation, this is a tragedy that will not be overcome by the survivors in many ways. If you or someone you love has been injured or worse in an auto accident, contact the attorneys at Phillips & Webster immediately to schedule a free initial consultation.

Seattle Light Rail Crash Raises Immediate Concerns

collision, injuries, light rail, seattle, Train Accident, train accident attorney

April 24th, 2009: Washington Law Blogger

A new Light Rail system that’s set to run from Sea-Tac airport to downtown Seattle and back is a few months away from being made available to the pubic, but it appears that the new mode of transit has already encountered problems in how it shares the roads with drivers who are not used to maneuvering around the Light Rails. The first tangible problem occurred last week when a train accident put the driver of a car involved in the collision in the hospital.

According to a report filed by KOMO of Seattle:

“The train collided with the car Wednesday during rush hour at Martin Luther King Jr. Way and South Dawson Street, sending the car’s driver to the hospital.

The accident happened despite a safety education campaign – one that not all drivers seem to be getting.

Trains and cars are now rubbing elbows along the light rail route, as Sound Transit launches intensive testing in preparation for its July grand opening. But there are no special barriers in place – just no-turn signs – which didn’t work to stop Sound Transit’s first accident.

Neighbors say the crossings are dangerous.

“I’ve seen people taking chances. It’s pretty scary,” said one local resident.

There are no crossing arms at the 29 intersections where Sound Transit goes street level through Rainier Valley. Instead, drivers get bells, whistles and warning lights.”

It’s always somewhat dangerous when a new train begins traversing city streets, particularly in a large metropolitan area like Seattle where traffic is quite heavy on a daily basis. If you or someone you love has been injured in such a situation, contact the train accident lawyers at Phillips & Webster today to schedule a free initial consultation.
