Vancouver – A woman was out looking for her dog last week. The good news is she found it. Then the situation turned weird.
The odd incident happened about 4:45 p.m. Monday in the 2700 block of Northeast 127th Avenue, in the Burton area of Vancouver, said Capt. Bill Garlington with the Vancouver Fire Department.
The woman got out of the car, Garlington said, hoping to coax her dog inside and apparently failed to put the transmission in park or otherwise make sure the car would stay stopped. When the car kept moving, she stumbled and was injured by the car.
En route to the hospital, medics called a trauma alert, notifying hospital emergency room staff to be ready, Garlington said.
The 21 year old Vancouver Washington resident is named Samantha Gardner, confirmed Officer Ilia Botvinnik with the Vancouver Police Department. She was in the emergency department at Southwest Washington Medical Center, said a nursing supervisor. Pending results of X-rays and scans, her condition hadn’t been determined.
This embarrassing situation could have been avoided if she had merely been patient, made sure her car was in park, and not moving.
Patience is one of the most important parts of defensive driving and quells feelings of stress and panic which can lead to serious injuries.
