Infant car seats have come a long way and there are still disputes about the safest way for them to point, towards the back or the front of the car. All of this seemed secondary this morning when a car seat saved an infant after the car it was riding in slammed into an oncoming semi.

A Carmen M. Winkle, a 25-year-old Oregon woman, was driving her 2005 Jeep Liberty with her baby in the back on State Route 8 at Old Olympic Highway around 8 this morning. It is unclear what happened exactly, but as the Jeep was traveling westbound it collided with the trailer of the semi, which also was travelling westbound, driven by Paul K. Yeboah, 48, of Seattle.

The impact compressed the front end of the SUV, but luckily it did not roll.

Police and medical crews responded and took Winkle to Providence St. Peter Hospital. The woman’s infant was perfectly fine and Yeboah, the truck driver, was uninjured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation; alcohol and/or drugs were not involved, according to the State Patrol.

Looking at the photograph it seems that this was a rear-end accident on wet pavement. This time of year those are fairly common as drivers forget that there is an accumulation of oil on the road from the long dry summer. When the rain comes the oil rises to the surface making the pavement as slick as ice. Please give the car in front of you ample room.

He turned onto the highway and was immediately plowed into by a 2006 Peterbilt tractor hauling double flatbed trailers, one of the largest semi’s on the road.

As you can imagine, the Buick was completely demolished.

Perezbotello was transported to Central Washington Hospital with a broken leg, broken arm and a knee injury.

The driver of the big rig was uninjured but the truck was totaled.

According to state troopers, Perezbotello was charged with failure to yield the right of way.

Many seniors choose to not drive everywhere and instead, for health reasons, to walk to places like the grocery store and other errands. Medical crews rushed to the scene of the injury accident, but they were not able to save her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Mukilteo Police confirmed that the accident is not a hit and run and that the driver of the commercial truck remained at the scene and was very cooperative.

The identity of the woman has not been released due pending notification of the family. Our condolences go out to the friends and family of the deceased.

You can be highly experienced and well trained in your profession, but sometimes a morning just doesn’t work out, which was the case yesterday morning for the driver of a Semi as he was hauling his load down Highway 395 near Kennewick, WA.

The crash happened at 19th Ave in Kennewick (milepost 15) where State troopers say the semi driver driving in the northbound lanes around 10:15 am collided with the median in an effort to avoid a rear-end accident with other vehicles that were quickly slowing down In front of him.

The maneuver ended badly for the truck driver as it resulted in the semi plowing into both the median and the back of the pickup sending it crashing into another pickup in front of it in a chain reaction collision.

The semi and both trucks had to be towed from the scene.

There were no reports of injuries on the scene, but many times rear-end accident injuries such as whiplash can show up as late as the next day after the victim has relaxed.

Troopers advised that truck drivers and drivers in general look far ahead of the car in front of them in order to determine what the car in front of them will do in a situation. Semi trucks are particularly equipped to do this since they tower above traffic usually. Troopers also advise leaving ample space in for the vehicle to stop.

Two people suffered serious personal injuries after an afternoon multi-car collision in Lynnwood yesterday, police said. At least three vehicles and a dump truck were involved in the collision.

The dump truck was carrying a load of asphalt and it overturned in the intersection.

The incident blocked one lane in each direction on Highway 99 and 168th Street Southwest in Lynnwood.

All lanes were reopened by 5:25 p.m. Thursday, said the Washington Department of Transportation (DOT).

Though trucks are driven by certified professionals there can be many hazards when being around them. Make sure to allow them lots of room behind you, when driving behind them make sure you follow far enough that you can see their rear view mirrors, and never pass on the right.

Scott L. Lynch, 37, of Newport was driving south on Highway 395 and exiting to Highway 397 at 10:55 pm when he missed a curve, lost control and the 1970 Dodge dump truck rolled onto its side.

He was taken to Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco after the truck accident, said the Washington State Patrol. He later was transferred to another hospital with serious personal injuries.

State patrol investigators said Lynch is under investigation for DUI and speeding.

Speeding in a multi-ton 40 year old vehicle is not the wisest thing to do because the distance it takes to stop the vehicle may reach as far as 25-50 yards depending on the size of the load. That is actually the normal length of many on and off ramps. Then adding DUI driving on top of that just creates a situation where Lynch is lucky he didn’t kill anyone.

Are you wondering why the northbound commute through Tacoma was a horrid nightmare yesterday? Well, it was due to a trucking accident. A semi-truck rolled and blocked the two right lanes on northbound Interstate 5 in Tacoma Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened at about 1:30 pm and also blocked the two left lanes of the onramp at Yakima Avenue. The lanes were cleared in less than an hour, but traffic remained heavy following the rollover as the area was hammered with rain.

The Washington State Patrol haven’t revealed if anyone was injured. Examining the picture we were able to pull off of the DOT cam it doesn’t look like there were any cars involved, but we can’t tell whether there is one truck or two.

Either way, this is the second trucking accident in as many days from trucks toppling on the freeway and blocking everything for hours. It requires a massive crane truck and workers running around on the clogged roadway. It’s just another accident waiting to happen. Trucking Accident in Everett Closes Hwy 2 Southbound I-5 Ramp

A large semi-truck carrying a load of sawdust rolled over on the on-ramp from Southbound Interstate 5 to US 2 at around 10 am Monday morning.

Video from the scene shows the truck on its side. Another truck with a crane was being used to right the truck.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. The cause of the accident was not immediately released, but speed could have been a factor.

I-5 South Closed Due to Trucking Accident near Centralia

Traffic is a mess on Interstate 5 in Centralia this morning when around 4 am a semi-truck slammed a car into a barrier and slid causing another car to smash into it.

The scene quickly became a sea of flashing lights as police and fire crews responded to the crash. The West Thurston Regional Fire Authority says three people were taken to Providence Centralia Hospital with serious personal injuries.

The investigation into this trucking accident closed all southbound lanes of I-5, traffic was detoured from Grand Mound (Exit 88) to Highway 99 and then back on I-5 at Centralia (Exit 82).

Early morning trucking accidents are rare, but when they happen they can be deadly. Trucks are operated by professionals, but they are human none-the-less. They drive at odd hours to avoid traffic, but often times this can be the cause of serious injury accidents when fatigue sets in.

Two Men Injured in Trucking Accident on Rainier Ave.

A man and his passenger were driving down Rainier Avenue South around the 9600 block this morning when they suddenly swerved, sending them into a spin, where they crossed the center line, and were t-boned by an oncoming commercial truck traveling northbound.

Both men were reported as being seriously injured by police.

Police have blocked off the lanes for investigation. There has been no information as to the where the two men in the car were taken and what their current state is. There also has been no indication as to whether drugs or alcohol was involved.

This is where Rainier Avenue meets Lake Washington. Generally high speeds are not expected in this section because the road becomes more of a winding residential street rather than a commercial center like most of it is. Our speculation is that the car may have been going over the designated speed around one of the curves because spinning, even on wet roads takes some good velocity.
